Society Events

Sand Moor is a popular destination course for Society groups, Captains away days and Corporate days due to its excellent practice facilities, modern clubhouse, friendly bar and restaurant, and highly rated championship golf course.

Whilst the course is ranked in the top 6% of golf courses in England*, and offers a good test of golf, it is not a particularly punitive course, and therefore can be enjoyed by players of all abilities.

The Practice Facilities

Sand Moor Golf Club boasts excellent practice facilities, which are available for the use of both club members and playing guests.

The club has a 300 yard Driving Range, with both covered bays and external grass hitting strips, three pitching and chipping greens, two practice bunkers, and a large nine hole putting green.

The Clubhouse

The Clubhouse at Sand Moor Golf Club was extensively refurbished in 2010, and consists of an open plan, spacious lounge and bar area, a large well appointed formal dining area, and a wide wrap around balcony,

The bar and lounge offers a fine selection of ales, wines and spirits, along with sandwiches and other bar snacks. It overlooks the 18th green.

The large contemporary dining room seats up to 100 covers. It overlooks the 1st tee and the practice putting green.

The spacious balcony wraps around two sides of the clubhouse, with views over the 18th green to west facing side, and the 1st tee on the south facing side.

The south facing side benefits from early morning sun, and is a lovely spot for a pre-round morning coffee. The west facing side enjoys afternoon and early evening sun and is a perfect position to enjoy a post round drink or meal whilst watching the last of the days golfers come over the hill and on to the 18th green.

The Golf Course

The Sand Moor Golf Course is an 18 hole Championship course, measuring 6,446 yards, consisting of three par 5's, eleven par 4's and four par 3 holes.

It was designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie in 1926 - who sat on the very first Greens Committee at the club - and famously went on to design Augusta National.

The course is perhaps better known for its four challenging par 3's - each of which were originally designed by Alister MacKenzie. Each par 3 varies in length, style and offers a different challenge.

Sand Moors longest hole is the 556 yard 16th hole, which features a tricky right to left sloping fairway.

Safety on the course

When using the practice ground, play is always in the direction of the central yardage discs.
Attention is drawn to the public footpaths which cross the 8th, 16th and 18th fairways. Please give way to pedestrians using these footpaths.

Please wear golf shoes with studs appropriate to the weather and ground conditions. Particular care is urged on grassy slopes.
Designated paths and steps should be used where available.

Warning bells are located after the 3rd green, along the 4th and 12th fairways and after the 18th green. Please use them to inform those behind "all is clear".

It is advisable to use the steps at the 1st tee to ensure that the fairway is clear before teeing off.
Players should always ensure that when playing a shot, those in front are out of range and the traditional shout of 'fore' should be made immediatly in cases where devient shots may endanger other golfers.
